A Successful Journey of Ajanta Food Colours under Ajanta Chemical Industries

Ajanta Food Colours is a brand and operating division of Ajanta Chemical Industries, a family-owned Indian manufacturing company with more than 75 years of experience in the colour manufacturing industry.

The journey of the company began in 1948 with the establishment of Anant Chemical Industries, which laid the foundation for what later became Ajanta Food Colours. At that time, India largely depended on imported food colours from European countries. In 1972, the company achieved a major milestone by starting the domestic manufacturing of synthetic food colours in India. Following this development, the company was renamed Ajanta Chemical Industries, and its products were introduced under the brand name Ajanta Food Colours.

Growth & Global Expansion

In 1973, Ajanta Chemical Industries began exporting raw materials for colour dyes and food additives to international markets, including the denim industry. This marked the start of the company’s global expansion and product diversification. Over the years, the company developed and manufactured products such as food dye intermediates, indigo dyes, organic and inorganic pigments, and other specialty chemicals.

Since 1976, Ajanta Food Colours has been exporting high-quality indigo dyes to Japan and food additives to Southeast Asian countries. In 2000, the company expanded its portfolio with the production of lake colours. To support growing global demand, Ajanta Chemical Industries consolidated its advanced and eco-friendly manufacturing facilities in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, India, which now serves as the central production hub.

In 2014, the company entered the cosmetic colours segment, further strengthening Ajanta Food Colours’ presence across multiple industries.
